Two years of work has come to a successful conclusion.
The daycare – which is located conveniently near Highway 48 in a modern building – is licensed for 30 children. The spots are fully funded by the Saskatchewan government. Four full-time staff and four part-time staff take care of the children which range from infants to school-aged. Parents can have the staff care for their children between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wawota was represented at the Estevan Business Showcase from Oct.3-5. Companies and individuals stopped into the booth to get more information about Wawota and the RMs of Walpole and Wawken. A number of people recognized Wawota for all the work done to beautify the town and said the area's residents should be proud of the town!
If anyone in and around Wawota last weekend said there was nothing to do, their name would be "Mission Impossible".
Beginning on Friday evening, all the events were superb – even with Mother Nature adding her bit. The parade on Saturday was greater than anyone's expectations – there were around 50 registered entries and nearly as many "just showed up". Then there was the food – no shortage – and all so good!
The musical drama on Saturday night was #1 entertainment – so well put together and ending with Wawota's Centennial Song. The Sunday events were again extremely well attended. The Fashion Show gave us a look at clothing from days gone by. The dedication of the Legion Cenotaph was most impressive – as was the opening of the Centennial Park. The dances were huge successes, too.
Hopefully everyone attending enjoyed a fun-filled weekend that will be remembered for a long time.
Thanks to everyone for making it Wawota's Party of the Century.
Work on Highway 48 is scheduled to be completed at the end of this construction season, a spokesman for the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure has confirmed. However, if the weather doesn't cooperate for the contractor, the project could be extended.
Construction begins at Highway 9 and runs east on Highway 48 until it reaches about four kilometres east of town. Once completed, the 22-kilometre stretch will be a wider, granular paved surface.
The $5.2 million project is being done by Venture Construction Inc. It began in 2007.
